PILGRIMS

In 2002, a year deemed auspicious by the Tibetan spiritual leader Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, hundreds of thousands buddhists enacted great pilgrimages and held grand ritualistic celebrations in Bodhgaya, India, and Mt. Kailash, in Tibet. The series Pilgrims follows the spiral and circular paths of the devoted in the respective countries, as they collectively and indidually reached toward a connection to divinity. The photographs capture moments of disciplined movement, silent suspension, and breath, during a sacred and communal journey of body and spirit.
